Sometimes people can no longer live at home, for example if they are very old (e.g. 90 years) or can no longer walk and have no one to care for them.
Then they move to a nursing home (verzorgingshuis). Care is available there day and night.

Voor mensen met een handicap geldt: zij wonen zoveel mogelijk zelfstandig.
De gemeente helpt hierbij (WMO). Zij kunnen bijvoorbeeld aanpassingen in huis krijgen.
Alleen als het echt niet anders kan, gaan zij naar een instelling.

For people with a disability, the principle is: they live as independently as possible (zoveel mogelijk zelfstandig).
The municipality helps with this (Social Support Act / WMO). For example, they can get home adaptations.
Only if there is really no other way do they go to an institution.
