Law: Article 1 of the Constitution

🇳🇱 1. De Grondwet en Artikel 1
De Grondwet is de belangrijkste wet van Nederland. Alle andere wetten moeten zich aan de Grondwet houden.
In de Grondwet staat dat discriminatie verboden is.
Artikel 1 zegt: alle mensen zijn gelijk voor de wet. U mag niet discrimineren op basis van geloof, huidskleur, geslacht, of seksuele voorkeur.
🇬🇧 1. The Constitution and Article 1
The Constitution (Grondwet) is the most important law in the Netherlands. All other laws must comply with the Constitution.
The Constitution states that discrimination is forbidden.
Article 1 says: all people are equal (gelijk) before the law. You may not discriminate based on religion, skin color, gender, or sexual orientation.
🇳🇱 2. Vrijheid van meningsuiting en godsdienst
U heeft vrijheid van meningsuiting. U mag uw mening zeggen, maar u moet altijd respect hebben voor een ander. U mag niemand beledigen of schade toebrengen.
Er is ook vrijheid van godsdienst. Iedereen mag zijn eigen geloof hebben. Veel Nederlanders hebben geen godsdienst, en dat mag ook.
🇬🇧 2. Freedom of Speech and Religion
You have freedom of speech (vrijheid van meningsuiting). You may express your opinion, but you must always show respect for others. You may not insult anyone or cause harm (e.g., hate speech).
There is also freedom of religion (vrijheid van godsdienst). Everyone is allowed to have their own faith. Many Dutch people have no religion, and that is allowed too.
🇳🇱 3. Rechten en plichten
Naast rechten heeft u ook plichten. U moet de wetten kennen en u aan de wet houden.
Ook moet u belasting betalen als u geld verdient. De overheid gebruikt dit geld voor sociale voorzieningen en wegen.

Besides rights, you also have duties. You must know the laws and obey them.
You must also pay taxes (belasting) if you earn money. The government uses this money for social services and roads.
