Als u bij een Nederlander op bezoek gaat, moet u altijd eerst een afspraak maken. U mag niet onaangekondigd komen.
Het is heel belangrijk om op tijd te komen. Als u later komt, moet u bellen.
U krijgt meestal koffie of thee met een koekje. Voor een officiΓ«le afspraak (bijvoorbeeld bij een dokter) moet u ook op tijd komen.
π¬π§ 1. Visiting and Appointments
If you visit a Dutch person, you must always make an appointment (afspraak maken) first. Do not show up unannounced (niet onaangekondigd).
It is very important to be on time (op tijd komen). If you are going to be late, you must call.
You usually get coffee or tea with a cookie. For an official appointment (e.g., at a doctor), being on time is mandatory.
π³π± 2. Verjaardag
Als iemand jarig is, vieren de Nederlanders dat. U zegt Gefeliciteerd tegen de jarige.
Bij een verjaardag feliciteert u ook de partner van de jarige. U geeft de jarige een cadeau.
Als u jarig bent, moet u zelf trakteren op school of op het werk.
π¬π§ 2. Birthdays
Dutch people celebrate birthdays. You say Congratulations (Gefeliciteerd) to the birthday person.
Uniquely, you also congratulate the partner and family of the birthday person. You usually bring a gift.
When it is your own birthday, it is custom that you treat others (trakteren) to cake at work or school.
π³π± 3. Geboorte
Als er een baby geboren is, sturen de ouders een geboortekaartje naar vrienden en familie.
Als u op kraamvisite gaat, moet u eerst een afspraak maken. Het bezoek blijft meestal niet lang.
De traditie is dat bezoekers beschuit met muisjes krijgen. De kleur van de muisjes is roze of blauw.
π¬π§ 3. Birth Traditions
When a baby is born, parents send a birth card (geboortekaartje) to friends and family.
If you go on a maternity visit (kraamvisite), you must make an appointment first. These visits are usually short.
The tradition is that visitors are served rusk with aniseed sprinkles (beschuit met muisjes). The color of the sprinkles (muisjes) is pink (girl) or blue (boy).
π³π± 4. Bruiloft en Huwelijk
Als u wordt uitgenodigd voor een bruiloft, krijgt u een uitnodiging per post.
Het is gebruikelijk om het bruidspaar geld te geven, maar u kunt natuurlijk ook vragen wat ze graag willen hebben.
π¬π§ 4. Weddings and Marriage
If you are invited to a wedding (bruiloft), you will receive an invitation by mail.
It is customary to give the bridal couple money, but of course you can also ask them what they would like to receive.
